Open the door.Do the work.

The anxiety. The burnout. The reaction you keep having and can't explain, even to yourself.

That isn't the malfunction. That's the alarm, doing its job.

Why Mental Fortitude Therapy

Most therapy asks you to talk about the alarms. I'll take you to the source of the alarms, often downstairs.

You already know what you're feeling. You've read the books. You could probably teach the coping skills. And you're still sitting in the car in the driveway for twenty minutes before you can go inside.

That's not a knowledge problem. You don't need more insight into the smoke. You need to find the fire.

What that looks like

You come in and, early, I ask you to tell me about the worst parts of your life. Not because it's cathartic. Because that's where the fire is, and I'm not going to spend a year circling it with you.

Then we build the one thing that makes the Basement survivable: the Calm Observer. The part of you that can smell smoke and not panic. Most people arrive without one. It's the first thing we build, and it's the reason you can go down there without getting burned.

Then we go down. Fear. Wounds. Ego. We look at what's been running your life from underneath the floorboards.

We don't demolish anything. We restore the house.

Why me

Thirty years. Dual licensed, LPCC and LICDC, which means when the mental health and the substance use are tangled together, you don't have to explain it twice to two different people.

I work with EMDR, CBT, ACT, and somatic approaches. But the method isn't the point. The point is that I'll tell you the truth, and I will not be impressed by how well you're holding it together.

You've had enough people impressed by you. That's part of the problem.

The Method

There is a method to this.
I call it the Clear Mind Framework

Your mind is a house. You've been living on the main floor your whole life, making decisions in a control room that's been quietly taking orders from a basement you've never been down to look at.

Step inside

Who this is for

You're the one people count on.

That's the part nobody sees as a problem, including you.

You handle it. You've always handled it. Your team leans on you, your family leans on you, and the person who taught you to carry it that way is probably dead or long gone or never said a word about it.

From the outside, you're doing well. On paper, you're doing better than well.

Underneath, you're running on fumes and you have been for years.

Some of what that looks like

  • You are the calmest person in every room, and you have nothing left when you get home.
  • You snapped at your child over nothing, and you've been sitting with it for three days.
  • You sit in the driveway before you can make yourself walk in.
  • You've read the books. You could teach the coping skills. You still can't do them.
  • You have a drink most nights, and you have started noticing that you have a drink most nights.
  • You're not sad, exactly. You're just not there anymore. You haven't been in a while.

I work with

Executives, physicians, attorneys, and business owners who are competent everywhere but home.

First responders. Police, fire, and dispatch. I built a specialty here, and I know what you can't say at the station.

Anyone carrying mental health and substance use at the same time. I'm dually licensed, LPCC and LICDC. You will not have to explain yourself twice to two different people.

Couples where one person has gone quiet and neither of you knows when it started.

You are not broken.
You are a person whose alarm has been going off for eleven years while everyone told you how well you were handling things.

The alarm is right. Let's go find out why.

Our approach

Calm first. Then clarity. Then contentment.

In that order, because the order is the whole point. You can't think clearly inside an alarm, and you can't be content inside a life you've never actually looked at.

  1. CalmWe get the alarm quiet enough that you can hear yourself. Not numb. Quiet. This is the part most people have been trying to do alone for years.
  2. ClarityWe map the house. What is upstairs, what is in the control room, and what is holding weight in the basement. You stop guessing about your own reactions.
  3. ContentmentNot happiness on demand. The particular steadiness of a person who knows what their house is built on and is no longer afraid of the basement.

Telehealth

Nobody has to see you walk in.

That matters more than most therapists admit. Especially if you're a cop, a firefighter, a dispatcher, or anyone who works in the town they live in.

You can do this from your office with the door shut. From your car on a lunch break. From the spare room after everyone is asleep. It's secure, it's private, and it doesn't require you to explain to anyone where you're going on Tuesday afternoons.

The work is the same. I've done thirty years of it, and I don't do a lighter version of it over a screen.

Where I can see you

I'm licensed in Ohio, and I hold Counseling Compact privileges in Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, and Minnesota. You need to be physically located in one of those states at the time of the session.

  • Ohio
  • Arizona
  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Minnesota

If you're in the Dayton area and you'd rather sit in a room, I have an office in Kettering. Some people need the room. That's fine, and it's yours if you want it.

What you will need

A private space where you won't be interrupted, and an internet connection that holds. That's it. I'll send you everything else before we start, including what happens if the connection drops mid session, because it will eventually and you should know the plan before it does.

Investment

Two ways to pay for this. Both of them honest.

Using your insurance

I'm in network with the following plans, and I can see you now.

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Cigna
  • Medical Mutual
  • UnitedHealthcare

Your cost is your copay, coinsurance, or deductible under your plan. Bring your card to the consult call and I will help you find out what that number actually is before you commit to anything.

Paying out of pocket

Some people choose this on purpose, and here's what it buys you.

No diagnosis on file with an insurance company. No treatment plan written to satisfy a utilization reviewer. No six session cap because someone in an office in Hartford decided that's how long your grief should take.

You and I decide what the work is.

Most PPO plans reimburse a portion of out of network therapy. I provide a superbill after every session that you can submit directly. Many clients are reimbursed 50 to 80 percent. If that's your situation, ask me on the consult call and I will tell you exactly how to find out before you commit to anything.
